Bangladesh has banned its citizens from using Instagram, TikTok, WhatsApp, YouTube and other social media platforms. This was disclosed by Global Eyes News on its official X account on Friday, August 2, 2024. The implication is that from Friday, access has been restricted to these widely-used social media apps throughout the country. This follows a previous shutdown of Meta from July 17 to July 31 which was implemented in response to unrest related to quota reform protests. Tom Bennett – BBC News Israel’s military says it has confirmed that Hamas’s military chief Mohammed Deif was killed in an Israeli air strike in the Gaza Strip last month. Deif was targeted in the strike on a compound in the Khan Younis area on 13 July. Hamas is yet to confirm his death. Nobel Laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka, on Friday, described corruption as a deadly cankerworm that lays great nations in ruins. While speaking at the 26th Annual Wole Soyinka Lecture organised by the National Association of Seadogs, known as Pyrates Confraternity, to mark his 90th birthday, Soyinka stated that corruption put people at a great disadvantage.
