The Naira yesterday appreciated to N1, 585 per dollar in the parallel market from N1,595 per dollar on Wednesday. Gunmen have abducted 20 medical and dental students in Benue state. The victims, said to be students of the University of Maiduguri and University of Jos, were traveling when they were ambushed by gunmen around Otukpo area of the state on Thursday evening. The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) says 39 mpox (monkeypox) cases and zero deaths have been recorded in the country this year. On Wednesday, the World Health Organisation (WHO) declared mpox a “public health emergency of international concern” after a surge in cases recorded in Africa.
