The “Bayelsa State Thanksgiving Day Law” is one of the existing policies signed in 2012 by former governor Henry Seriake Dickson, now a Senator representing Bayelsa West in the National Assembly, State reporters.
A public holiday is usually declared following the law guiding the special day to hold the annual thanksgiving celebration every November 2nd.
The annual thanksgiving was among the religious policies of the state introduced by the Dickson administration which also includes a monthly praise night and daily morning devotion at the official residence of the governor inside the Government House, Yenagoa, that have been inherited by the current Governor, Senator Douye Diri.
“The day has been widely considered as a religious holiday in Bayelsa state set aside to give thanks to God.”
As a civil servant friendly state, the public holidays declared by the state Government on that second November, is to enable workers in the public and private sectors to actively take part in the state’s annual Thanksgiving service, which usually happens at the states econumenical centre, Igbogene, Yenagoa.
