The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has debunked reports alleging that some enrolment agents in Abuja demand money to manipulate applicants’ dates of birth.
In a statement issued by the Head of Corporate Communications, Kayode Adegoke, the Commission clarified that all modifications to National Identification Number (NIN) records are carried out exclusively online via the official self-service modification portal, not through physical agents.
NIMC emphasized that it has no authorized agents for data changes and maintains a strict zero-tolerance stance against extortion, falsification, or any form of unethical conduct.
The Commission urged Nigerians to adhere to approved procedures, comply with official guidelines and fees, and promptly report any suspected misconduct through its complaint channels. Adegoke further assured that the integrity and security of the national identity database remain fully safeguarded.
