In a news publication from the acting PDP Publicity Secretary Bayelsa state, Mr Ogoli Ebiye, informed Bayelsans that it has scheduled the conduct of its State Congress for Saturday, 31st August, 2024.
The statement reads, “The Special State Congress of the Party which will elect new set of officers to fill vacant positions left open by the expiration of the tenure of the outgoing State Executive Committee members commences with accreditation of delegates at 11.00am prompt at Gabriel Okara Cultural Centre.
And in line with Party Constitutional guidelines, the following delegates are expected to participate in the said Special State Congress and they include; Serving/former President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria; Serving & former Governors and their deputy Governors from the State; Serving/former members of BOT; Members of State Executive Committee; Serving/former members of NEC and Zonal Executive of the Party; Serving/former members of National Assembly; Serving members & former Principal officers of the State House of Assembly; All Council Chairmen & their Vice; All elected Local Govt Area Party Executive Committee members, all of the above who are still members if the Party.
Others include; All National Assembly and State House of Assembly candidates of the Party until subsequent congresses are conducted and new candidates emerged; three (3) delegates elected at the last Ward Congresses at least one (1) of whom shall be a woman; former members of State Working Committee; former LGA Party Chairman who are members of the Party; One physically challenged (PCP) per LGA; all elected Local Government Councillors; All serving Party Chairmen, Dep. Chairmen, Secretary, Women & Youth Leaders of the Wards in the state and lastly, One(1) National Delegate per LGA elected at the Local Government Area Congress.
In conclusion, we express profound gratitude to all Party Leaders, stakeholders and entire membership across board for the huge, invaluable support, cooperation and solidarity enjoyed by the outgoing State Executive Committee members, even as we are sure that same measure of support and goodwill will be extended to the incoming SEC members.”
In a related publication from the Delta State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, announced that its state congress will be held on Saturday, August 31.
The congress is scheduled to be held at the Cenotaph, Asaba, by 10:00 am.
State reporters revealed that the publication was contained in a statement signed by the Secretary of the party, Dan Ossai, copies of which were made available to journalists in Warri, on Wednesday.
The statement enjoined the delegates and aspirants for various offices to be seated by 9:00 am.
It listed expected delegates as the governor and the deputy governor, former governors and their deputies, serving and former members of the Board of Trustees, members of the party’s State Executive Committee, serving and former members of the National Executive Committee and Zonal Executive Committees, serving and former members of the National Assembly, serving members of the state House of Assembly and former principal officers the House.
Also expected were Local Government Areas chairmen and vice chairmen, all LG party executive members, all National Assembly and state House of Assembly candidates of the party in the last general elections, three delegates from the wards, former members of the State Working Committee of the party, former LG party chairmen, one physically challenged person per LG, all serving elected LG councillors, all serving chairmen, deputy chairmen, secretaries, women and youth leaders of the wards in the state and all national delegates.
“All the categories of persons mentioned above must still be members of the party,” the statement stressed.
