President Bola Tinubu will visit Nasarawa State to inaugurate a new 6,000-metric-ton lithium processing plant built by Chinese investors, Governor Abdullahi Sule announced on Wednesday.
Sule disclosed this to reporters after meeting the President at the Aso Rock Villa, Abuja. The facility, located in Nasarawa Local Government Area, is the second in the state in under a year and doubles the 3,000MT capacity project commissioned in 2023.
He said the visit will take place after Tinubu’s return from a two-week trip to France beginning later this week.
“Mr. President promised that on his return from his short vacation, he’s going to come to Nasarawa to commission the project,” Sule said.
The governor described Nasarawa as a growing hub in Nigeria’s lithium value chain, noting strong investor interest following discoveries of commercial-grade deposits.
The Federal Government has pledged to restrict raw lithium exports to boost in-country processing and position Nigeria as a regional hub for battery and solar panel manufacturing. At least two Chinese-backed lithium plants are slated for commissioning in 2025 as part of this beneficiation drive.
Sule also linked the state’s infrastructure projects to reforms by the Tinubu administration, citing improved revenues from fuel subsidy removal and foreign exchange unification.
