The Saturday Emmomotimi Charles outreach foundation (SECOF) officially started her student support program tagged “Giving a helping hand 1.0.” The program started yesterday, 24 January 2025.
The foundation that intends to provide financial support to over 300 students across tertiary institutions in Bayelsa state, started with visit to the International Institute of Tourism and Hospitality Management, Yenagoa, where a total of thirty (30) students received student support packages in financial measures.
In order to gain fairness and transparency which the foundation holds very high, the members of the SECOF introduced some games that were categorized into “Helping hands, Magic box and General Participation,”
All students picked tickets in raffle draws to qualify for various categories and total of 30 students won prizes.
The SECOF believes that education is the foundation for a brighter future for people and society, hence, gave Award of Academic Excellence to Mrs Bibobra Asabiowei Brabokedi, who was the student with the highest grade in the institution.
Gracefully, Bibobra also won the magic box packages which became a wonder and huge surprise to all participants.
Mrs Bibobra Asabiowei is from Angalabiri community in Sagbama local government area, currently in National Diploma (ND2), in the department of Hospitality Management Technology, with a clear stand of 3.96 CGPA.
In her speech, she stated that she is married with kids but being a wife had not deter her from achieving her educational goal. She expressed gratitude to the SECOF and promised the school to maintain the ranks and improve on herself where necessary, while representing the school even after graduation.
The Rector of Institute of Tourism, Prof. Apuega A. Arikawei, was happy and admitted he had long experienced the kind benevolence extended to his students by individuals and Non Governmental Organizations (NGO’s). He prayed for the foundation to continue to wax stronger and also achieve her short, medium and long term objectives.
The exco of student union government, academic and non academic staff of the Institute of Tourism all attended the program.
Similarly, there were smiles on the faces of Bayelsa Medical University students. They were amused by the visit of the Saturday Emmomotimi Charles Outreach Foundation, as they received financial support for their education that was not expected.
They picked raffle draws in different categories just as the Institue of Tourism and 34 students won prizes.
Thirty two (32) students won helping hand prizes, while two (2) students surprisingly won the magic box with their wishes being granted.
On the area of awarding the best performing student in Bayelsa Medical University, the school Management through the Dean of students promised to provide records of the student to enable the foundation redeem her promise. The Dean however promised that the student is in 300level and the records shall be sent to the SECOF in a short while.
Meanwhile, the SUG President, thanks the foundation for her timely visit to the school. He assured that a period where the school is about to elect her new student leaders is actually the best time, so that the incoming student leaders are familiar with the foundation and what they represent.
The maiden program ended at the Bayelsa medical university where the Deputy Vice Chancellor of the university Professor Paingha Joe Alagoa represented the Vice Chancellor in receiving the SECOF in his office. After a brief exchange of ideas, the Deputy Vice Chancellor declared the SECOF as official partners of the University.
Recall that the foundation earlier promised to provide support to students across the Bayelsa state tertiary institutions; now the question on everyone’s mind is,“Which school is next to receive from the SECOF?”
