Bayelsa Queens FC Thrash Brave Heart Ladies 6-0 in Betsy Obaseki Women Football Tournament Opener
The Bayelsa Queens FC kicked off their Betsy Obaseki Women Football Tournament campaign in style, defeating Brave Heart Ladies of Edo 6-0 in their Group B opener on Monday, October 7, 2024, at the University of Benin Sports Stadium.
The Prosperity Girls dominated the game from the start, with Peace Abbey scoring the opener in the 17th minute. Abbey doubled the lead in the 23rd minute, followed by Dooshima Tarnum’s goal in the 30th minute. Abbey completed her hat-trick on the stroke of halftime, giving Bayelsa Queens a 4-0 lead.
In the second half, Mercy Omokwo netted twice in the 54th and 59th minutes, sealing a comfortable 6-0 victory for Bayelsa Queens.
Brave Heart Ladies pushed for a consolation goal, but Bayelsa Queens’ solid defense and goalkeeper Linda Jiwuaku’s brilliant saves thwarted their efforts.
Bayelsa Queens will be facing Naija Ratels in their next fixture on Tuesday and Espoir FC of Benin Republic on Thursday in their remaining Group B matches.
