Engr. Azibaola Robert, a cousin to former President Goodluck Jonathan, has stated that the ex-leader remains constitutionally and legally eligible to contest the 2027 presidential election if he chooses to.
Robert made this known in a Facebook post while responding to comments by Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, and human rights lawyer, Chidi Odinkalu, who had argued that Jonathan was barred from running again.
According to Robert, contrary legal opinions hold no weight as Jonathan is fully qualified under the law.
“GEJ is 100% constitutionally and legally qualified to contest if he chooses to. If he decides not to yield to the overwhelming calls to contest, it would not be because he is not qualified,” he wrote.
He further dismissed opposing views as “screwed and unsolicited,” adding that such arguments have no bearing on Jonathan’s political options.
Robert, however, clarified that his statement should not be interpreted as a confirmation that the former president would be on the ballot in 2027.
