The Bayelsa State Government has prohibited the imposition and collection of development levies from investors and property developers by Community Development Committees (CDCs), youth organisations, and other related groups across the state.
Announcing the directive, the Honourable Commissioner for Information, Orientation and Strategy, Hon. Ebiuwou Koku-Obiyai, said the decision is aimed at creating a business-friendly environment, reducing unnecessary financial burdens on investors, and accelerating development in the state.
The government warned that henceforth, no CDC, youth body, or community group is permitted to demand or collect such levies, stressing that violators would be dealt with accordingly.
While outlawing the practice, the Commissioner clarified that companies will still be required to fulfil their corporate social responsibility (CSR) obligations, but strictly within the framework of regulations provided by relevant government agencies.
She called for total compliance, urging community leaders and youth groups to support government’s efforts to attract investment and enhance economic growth.
