The Oversight Committee – the main investigative board of the United States House of Representatives, has called on the Secret Service Director, Kimberly Cheatle, to appear for a hearing. This comes after the assassination attempt on former US President Donald Trump at a political rally on Saturday, July 13, 2024, in Pennsylvania. Bayelsa Governorship Tribunal. Court of Appeal dismisses appeal filed by Udengs Eradiri of Labour Party for lack of diligent prosecution of his petition. The court noted that Eradiri and his lawyer had abandoned their petition by raising fresh issues on appeal which were different from those raised at the tribunal. The Court also observed that curiously, neither the petitioner nor his lawyer signed the record of appeal. That’s lack of seriousness! The Naira yesterday appreciated to N1,550 per dollar in the parallel market from N1,560 per dollar on Wednesday. Similarly, the Naira appreciated N1,554.55 per dollar in the Nigerian Autonomous Foreign Exchange Market, NAFEM. Data from FMDQ showed that the indicative exchange rate for NAFEM fell to N1,554.55 per dollar from N1,561.98 per dollar on Wednesday, indicating N7.43 appreciation for the naira. The volume of dollars (turnover) traded on the window rose by 47.4 per cent to $348.82 million from $236.7 million traded on Wednesday. Yesterday’s talks between President Bola Tinubu and the Organised Labour on minimum wage were adjourned until next week. The Tripartite Committee on the new national minimum wage had recently submitted two figures to the President as the organised private sector and the government team offered to pay N62,000, while the Organised Labour demanded N250,000. Following the disagreement on the figures, the President had delayed sending any figure to the National Assembly through the Executive Bill to consult with all the relevant stakeholders in order to resolve all the contentious issues.
